Small business around the world – Kauai

by on November 27, 2017

I’ve taken a bit of a break from travelling in the last little while focusing rather intently on my new home (Bowen Island) and the developments on my piece of land. So it was great to get back out on the road again. This time with my family (parents and sister) for a much anticipated reunion on the beautiful island of Kauai – a lush, verdant, frequency filled part of our planet full of lovely little small businesses and friendly locals living the laid back life. Here are some of the highlights…

Rather than trying to do it all, pick one thing, and rock it. This super busy restaurant (lineup down the block at dinner) served only udon, all handmade on the premises. Honolulu, HI

This gorgeous dam reached by a beautiful hike through mahogany forests was thanks to the owners of the local mini golf course – they decided to open up part of their acreage to the public so that all could enjoy the beautiful nature, at no charge! Doing good with business is always something I love to see.

The best way to enjoy the Hawaiian delicacy of poke? From a super popular lunch counter run by a friendly local family. Kapa’a, HI

Didn’t really get how shaved ice was different from a snow cone until I tried it. OMG what a treat! Especially from these good folks with their clean, all natural ingredients. Kapa’a, HI

This road side stall was too precious for words! Unfortunately the owner is having some issues with the state vis a vis the positioning of her stall, but she was optimistic that her baked goodies would be back up for sale very soon ☺

Local farm gets into the Hallowe’en spirit.

A java fix with plenty of aloha.

There was just something about this storefront that I really jived with.

This is what drive-through coffee looks like on Kauai.

Does it get much better than delicious, freshly made coffee under a tree? Koloa, HI

This hilariously named small business was literally just a crack in the wall – you order your (incredibly delicious!) burrito through the takeout window. This small but mighty local biz was all about doing good with their operations – healthy, locally sourced ingredients, no MSG or artificial anything, everything made onsite by real humans (not in a factory!) and such a friendly, authentic vibe. Poipu, HI

My work space in paradise.

Hoped you enjoyed reveling in the aloha spirit of these businesses. Let me know if you got any sparks for your own biz.
