Marketing quick tip – create tweetable links

by on March 5, 2014

You’ve probably noticed tweetable links on other blog and websites. Essentially, with just a click, you’re able to share something (whether a comment, quote, statistic, fact or something else awesome and interesting) via Twitter. Creating such tweetable links makes it SUPER easy for anyone reading your content to share that juicy little tidbit. And we all know in our time starved lives, if it’s easy and fast, we’re much more likely to do it. Which benefits you as it encourages more Twitter interaction for your business and more views of your content.

How is a tweetable link different from a retweet? Well, a retweet will share the title of your blog post. This method instead shares another piece of content from your post that you decide on – it’s more engaging and a different take on the plain old “tweet this” post action that we’re all so familiar with.

A tweetable link might look something like this:

“We’re all time starved – if it’s easy & fast, we’re much more likely to do it. Enter tweetables!” Click to tweet this.

Notice what happens when you click on the “click to tweet” call to action above. It’s preloaded into Twitter and includes the proper @mention attribution – to me!

tweetable links

How to set up tweetable links:

  • Head on over to Click to Tweet, sign in to your Twitter account and hit “Authorize app”.
  • Enter your email address.
  • Now you’re ready to insert the content you want for your tweetable. Paste it into the box.
  • For most intents and purposes, you’re using a tweetable in conjunction with a blog post or piece of content you’ve created. So be sure to include the link to the content you want to pair with the tweetable. You’ll see as you’re creating your message how many characters you have left to work with.
  • Now think about the attribution you want – perhaps a relevant hashtag (I use #SmallBusinessBliss for alot of my content) or an @mention of you.
  • All ready? Now click on “Generate New Link”.

Tweetable links

  • Et voila, your tweetable is ready to go. Did you forget something or do you see a typo? Click to edit. Want to make sure it’s just as you want it? Click on the link in the top right hand corner to see what it looks like live.

Tweetables

  • Now copy that custom link and add it to your blog post as a hyperlink from your “Click to tweet” (or whatever copy you decide on) call to action. Or just simply paste the code in to have it pre-done for you (see below for what it looks like – although please note that I added the code to have it open in a new tab. Click here to find out why you might want to do that.) You also have the option to grab their little Twitter icon image.

Tweet: We’re all time starved – if it’s easy & fast, we’re much more likely to do it. Enter tweetable links! http://ctt.ec/4BJGf+ via @martinairing

And that’s all there is to it. Quick and easy.

Do you use tweetable links in your content? Do you find they help get your content shared? Share your experience in the comments!

Tweetable links proved to work on my blog. People use them to share my content because it’s easy to do it – all they need to do is to click. Especially it worked really well with roundup posts.

Thanks for making it sound so easy to add this function – I’ll give it a go (when I have something tweetable)!

I’ve known about this before and want to suggest a better tool to create these tweetable links: http://tweetable.link

It has unlimited trackable links, you can add a related account parameter which will encourage the tweeter to follow this specific account (great!), it has an easy to use dashboard, you can even create a public profile which shows all your tweetables ect… Lot’s of features! It’s really way better then Click to tweet!
